Long time no see! As we’re nearing the end of the regular season, two teams had a pretty terrible day two days ago.
First, the Astros. At bat Jose Altuve hit the ball into his foot. Normally that would be called a foul but the home plate umpire called it the third strike. Immediately Altuve got upset, but not unreasonably upset. A member of the Astros’ staff ran out on the field to talk to the umpire. Meanwhile Jose Altuve proceeded to take off his shoe and sock. Why? To show the home plate umpire the mark he got from getting hit on the foot. In response, the umpire ejected him. Should Altuve have taken off some of his clothes on the field? Probably not. But should he have been ejected? Also no. And that is coming from a diehard Astros hater. I just think it is one of the craziest ejections I have ever seen.
Second, on Tuesday night the Mariners played the Yankees. At one point Julio Rodriguez was on third base and Randy Arozearena was at bat. On strike three Randy accidentally let go of the bat mid swing, sending the bat flying directly at J-Rod. J-Rod jumped off third base to jump out of the way of the bat. On his way back to the base as he was shaking it off Yankees catcher Austin Wells threw the ball to third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. getting J-Rod out. Crazy! Imagine getting yourself out by defending yourself from a flying bat.
Personally these are two of the craziest things I have seen recently in baseball so I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
